Obituary of Linnie Mae Gafford

Linnie M. Gafford MILWAUKEE WI - Linnie Mae Gafford, 97, formally of Ashtabula, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at her son's home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Affectionately known as "Madear" by all of her family, she was born in Urbana, Arkansas, the daughter of Earnest and Eva (Washington) Gaines and had been an Ashtabula resident most of her life before relocating to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She worked as a short order cook at the Stowaway Restaurant at Carlisle's before her retirement. She also worked as a domestic, cleaning and caring for numerous Ashtabula families. Always strong in her faith, she was a member of Peoples Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Mass Choir, belonged to the Missionary Society, and was past president of the Nurses Guild of the church and the NBC Bible Study group. Linnie enjoyed crocheting, cooking, needlework, and quilting, but mostly treasured the time she spent with her family and friends. Her survivors include three sons, Charles Henry, Rev. Thomas Lloyd, both of Milwaukee, WI, Morris Franks, of Oakland, California, and one daughter, Delores (Norman) Cooper of Springdale, Maryland. She leaves behind one brother-in-law, Fate Jones, three nieces, Dorothy Gums, Willie Mae Jones, and Elmerene Jones, all of Ashtabula, and a host of grandchildren, and great grandchildren who loved her dearly. A private family service will be held 11AM Monday, November 29, 2021, at Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, 3837 West Avenue, Ashtabula. Rev. Dr. German Womack, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, in N. Kingsville. Memorial contributions may be made in her to the family.
