He loved to tell OTR truck stories of places he visited. In his younger years, he enjoyed volunteering with the Ashtabula Township, Kingsville and Sheffield Fire Departments. In his younger years, he recalls the canoe trips down the Ashtabula River, with his friend, Ralph Rose, who precedes him in death. Richard was generous of his time, was always willing to lend a hand or give the shirt off his back, never expecting anything in return. He enjoyed his daily trips to Deb's Diner to enjoy a nice meal and conversation with others. Richard was a member of the Ashtabula Elk's Lodge #208.
