Edmund H. Fredericks Ashtabula- Edmund Hugh Fredericks, 86, joined his beloved wife, Betty on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. He was surrounded in love by his family wishing him a safe journey into Betty’s waiting arms. Born on May 14, 1935, in Meadville, Pa, to Hugh and Hazel (Hart) Fredericks. After graduating from high school Ed joined the United States Army serving honorably during the Korean War. Ed met a lovely young lady, Elizabeth Ashley who was to become his wife. They were united in marriage on July 2, 1955, together they celebrated fifty-eight years of togetherness. They were a couple whose marriage was based on love, mutual respect and being kind to each other. In 1963 Ed and Betty moved to Ashtabula to raise their family. Ed and Betty were members of Faith Lutheran Church of Ashtabula. Together they managed the food pantry for fourteen years. Ed and Betty felt it was their calling to serve those less fortunate than they. Ed worked for Green Leaf Trucking, retiring after thirty-five years of dedicated service. His title was mechanic, but he was so much more. Whatever needed to be done you did not have to ask; Ed would make sure it was done. He enjoyed his job and he treated those who worked beside him as family, keeping in touch with them after retirement. Ed passed is work ethic to his children and grandchildren. A true “Mr. Fix-it” and tinkerer, if it could be repaired Ed would be the one to do that. He never met a problem he could not solve. He enjoyed camping with his family, going to Bingo, meeting friends and being with his family. Ed collected popsicle sticks, he was building a log cabin and was busy working on finishing construction, prior to his passing. His family was very important to him, much more after Betty’s death. Ed became a source of comfort to each of them, helping them in their disappointments and cheering for them in their joys. He loved each one with an open and generous heart. Ed is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Gene) Reckart of Southington, Ohio and Lisa Hakala of Ashtabula; five loving grandchildren, Michael (Tracy) McDaniel, Tiffany McDaniel, Sara Hakala, Ashley Hakala, and Devin Reckart; four precious great-grandchildren Taylor McDaniel, Kaila Paden, Kylee Lewis, and Olivia Grow; sister-in-law, Kathy Fredericks; loving nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Fredericks; loving son, Edmund Scott Fredericks; brother, Philip Fredericks and his parents. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Zaback Williams Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. Ed will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Betty and son, Scott at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio.
