Obituary of Cathryn Ann Thurston

Cathryn Ann Thurston, 75, of Geneva, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. Born March 30, 1947, in Ashtabula, she was a daughter of the late James and Marjorie (Rice) Battles. Cathy graduated in 1965 from Ashtabula High School. She obtained an Associate Degree from the Erie Business College. On May 10, 1969, Cathy married the love of her life, Gerald Thurston. She started her career as a secretary at Rockwell Brake Plant in Ashtabula and enjoyed her retirement position as a secretary for Weight Watchers. But the job she cherished the most was her 20 plus years at Washington Elementary School as the Administrative Assistant because she was able to touch many lives. Over the years, Cathy and Gerald loved to travel to many different places and during colder weather, they would travel south. One of Cathy’s favorite trips was riding the Amtrak out West to visit friends. Family vacations to Myrtle Beach always had a special place in Cathy’s heart. She loved taking in the beach scenery on her long walks along Lake Erie. She was an avid dancer and enjoyed reading and going to wineries. Kindhearted, Cathy was a wonderful Nana to her six grandchildren. They meant the world to her. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 53 years, Gerald Thurston; 3 daughters, Jill (Charles) Shaw, Julie (Scott) Vacca, both of Geneva, Caryn (Jeffrey) Schneider of Columbus; 6 grandchildren, Thurston and Emily Shaw, Lukas and Elizabeth Vacca, Keagan, and Ryley Schneider; sister, Jean (David) Gogul of Geneva. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Battles. Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road Ashtabula. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
